OK iPhone geeks, be careful out there. The latest news is that iPhone sales aren’t exploding…the phone itself is the one that explodes!

Reports have been coming from Europe that there have been remote incidents where an iPhone 3GS has exploded. Now when I first heard about this, I literally thought that the phone had bursted into a ball of flame. But in reality, the phones appeared to have first made a hissing sound, and then the touch screen shattered out. By following other reported issues with the new 3GS, it sounds like the phones overheated too much, which caused this.

The strangest part about this whole thing is Apple’s responses to the reported incident. In at least one case, Apple responded to the report by offering the owner a reimbursement, as long as they agreed to keep the terms of this “reimbursement” completely confidential. Obviously, seeing how I am able to tell you about this, the party declined this agreement, and therefore, was not reimbursed.

Apple is reportedly investigating the issue, along with other known issues with the 3GS. I can only hope that this release is not a repeat of the MobileMe flop…
