We all know how great our glassy desks look, but that ugly, dusty mousepad is always an eye-sore! Well, worry no more, because the news is that Logitech has created a mouse that can even work on glass!

So here’s the scoop:
Most mice these days use either optical or laser technology to observe the changes in texture on a surface in order to recognize movement. The problem is, high-gloss surfaces, such as glass, are virtually flat, and have very little texture for the lasers and optics to pick up.

Logitech’s new Performance and Anywhere mice have changed the way that mouse sensors work. They use something call “Dark Field Microscopy” to sense changes in movement. In simpler terms, the mouse sees the “clear” glass as a dark background, and sees on small particles, micro-scratches, and other imperfections in the glass as bright dots. The mouse then sees the movement of these dots, which in turn is used interpret the direction the mouse is moving. This new system works on glass that is at least 4mm thick.
This new technology does come with a price tag, however. The Performance is being sold for $100, and the Anywhere is being sold for $80.
Only thing I wonder is…do they make this mouse for left-handed people???
